Youth Week 2022 is coming to the Maranoa with an exciting opportunity for youth to get involved in unique and engaging learning experiences right across the region.

Taking place from Friday, 1 April to Monday, 11 April, Queensland Youth Week is an annual celebration of the positive contributions young people aged 12 to 25 make to Queensland communities.

This year, in celebration of our youth, Maranoa Regional Council is delighted to offer hands-on activities in a fun and engaging setting.

Mayor Tyson Golder said, “The 2022 Youth Week Program provides exciting activities for our young community and offers an opportunity to introduce the youth in our region to various activities.”

The 2022 Youth Week Program will consist of the following workshops.

STEMlab

Challenge yourself at our first ever STEMlab! Featuring fun, activities and creative challenges for teenagers such as creating a straw rocket, trying the walking water experiment, building a tower with plastic cups and coloured popsicle sticks or making a catapult from a popsicle sticks. The possibilities are endless at STEMlab!

  • Monday, 4 April – Surat Library – 10.30am-11.30am

 

Leanne’s Letters – Resin Art Clock Workshop

Create your own colourful resin clock! By no means do you have to be crafty, this is a fun and relaxing workshop with step-by-step instructions. All supplies are included with this hands-on class, and you will create a beautiful clock that you can cherish forever.

  • Monday, 4 April – Roma Butter Factory, Station Street, Roma – 10am-1.30pm
  • Tuesday, 5 April – Mitchell Memorial Hall – 10am-1.30pm
  • Thursday, 7 April – Wallumbilla Hall, Chadford Road, Wallumbilla – 10am-1.30pm

Please note that for the Resin Art Clock Workshop, there are limited bookings. Contact Customer Service on 1300 007 662 to book a spot. Please bring an apron if you would like to wear one.

Mike Ayanbadejo’s Believe Basketball clinics

Believe Basketball was created by director Mike Ayanbadejo who has over 30 years of basketball experience as a professional athlete and coach. Mike is currently a high performance and first team coach at Brisbane Boys College and open girls coach at St Peters Lutheran College.

The basketball clinics are open to ages 7 and above. Prizes are to be won. Buses may be arranged for outer lying towns.

  • Tuesday, 5 April to Thursday, 7 April – Maranoa PCYC ­– All day

Surat Youth Zone

Head down to Surat Youth Zone to play a variety of board games and table tennis!

  • Monday, 11 April – Surat Youth Zone – 10am - 12pm and 2pm - 4pm
