Mitchell s new reservoir

Maranoa Regional Council is excited to announce the completion of the new bore and reservoir in Mitchell.

Mayor Tyson Golder said this new bore will become the primary water source for Mitchell residents and businesses improving water flows, water pressure and fire-fighting capacity.

"The placement of the new bore will allow the water to be pumped a very short distance into the reservoirs to then gravity feed water into the town, reducing energy costs," Cr Golder said.

"Council would like to thank the Queensland Government for supporting these two vital projects for our community."

Assistant Minister for Local Government Nikki Boyd welcomed the investment.

"The Palaszczuk Government is committed to delivering for all Queenslanders, with water security in regional communities one of our highest priorities," Assistant Minister Boyd said.

"The Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program and COVID Works for Queensland is doing just that, with this investment delivering a new bore and reservoir in Mitchell.

"This will safeguard the community's water supplies and delivered local jobs during the construction."

The new reservoir will be able to hold 1.5ML, providing additional storage for the town. The water from the new bore will be pumped into the new reservoir to cool and then moved into the old reservoir for treatment. Both reservoirs will be able to be used individually if needed. The two other bores in Mitchell will then provide a backup supply for the town, especially during the peak summer period.

There is also a generator on site to ensure the new bore can continue to operate if the electricity fails.

Council will be able to increase water pressure to the town, once a number of older water mains are replaced to be able to withstand the pressure.

The Mitchell Bore Project & New Mitchell Reservoir on Mitchell – Saint George Road are proudly funded by the Queensland Government's Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program and COVID Works for Queensland program in association with Maranoa Regional Council.
