On Wednesday, 22 February 2023 Maranoa Regional Council conducted its latest Ordinary Meeting of Council. The meeting addressed an array of items on the agenda with several positive results.

Roma is set to potentially host True Country, a music festival and nationwide talent search with the original talent judge, Ian “Dicko” Dickson heading a team of industry professionals on the search to discover Australia's next country music superstars. Council is supporting the initiative with a letter of support for State Government funding, as well as assistance with creating a detailed budget and sponsorship proposal should it proceed.

Mayor Tyson Golder said the event would be good for residents and businesses. "True Country would be a fantastic event for the whole region,” said Mayor Golder. “We’re right behind the True Country team and would love to see it get up.”

Outback Tucker Under the Stars, the annual sell-out fine dining event at Roma Saleyards, promises to be bigger this year with Council approving expansion of the event to include the southeast carpark area and associated amenities and offering support with in-kind requests.

“Outback Tucker Under the Stars is sold out every year, well in advance,” said Cr Golder. “It’s become a signature event of the area, and if you ever get the chance to attend one, you’ll know why.”

Council has also agreed to offer a letter of support to the Roma Show Society in their pursuit of a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The grant would be used to build more semi-permanent stables at Basset Park. If the grant application is approved, Council will collaborate with the Roma Show Society to ensure that all necessary building and planning requirements are met, including maintaining race caller visibility, before the work on the stables begins.

“The Roma Show Society do a terrific job,” said Mayor Golder. “We’re happy to support them for something that will benefit the community.”
