Maranoa Regional Council supports community health and wellbeing with a “TRYathlon” for youngsters.

In the run up to National Youth Week in early April, Maranoa Regional Council is inviting kids to experience the Mitchell National Youth Week TRYathlon on Friday, 31 March 2023.

Comprised of swim, cycle and run legs, the Mitchell TRYathlon allows children as young as six partake in a swim of 25 metres, ride of 1.2km and finish with a 200-metre run. The event has seven age categories, topping out at the Open Adult Category with a 300-metre swim, 9.2km ride and 2.4km run. The family-friendly event is open to individuals and teams.

Mayor Tyson Golder said events like the Mitchell TRYathlon brings the community and families together and gives the kids a sense of confidence.

“If you’ve done your first triathlon at six or 12 years old, you’ve already achieved something many others haven’t,” said Cr Golder.

“Come along and give it a go. It is great to get involved and be healthy at the same time.”

Entry to the Mitchell TRYathlon is free, and all participants will receive a water bottle, morning tea and lunch. The race begins and ends at the Mitchell Pool at 9am with all activities completed by 1pm.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for kids from local schools in the region to catch up and have fun together,” said Cr Golder.

Council would like to thank Mitchell Police, Mitchell State School, St Patrick’s School, Dunkeld State School, Mungallala State School, Wallumbilla State School and Injune State School as well as all participants, parents and volunteers involved in the event.

Registration closes at 5pm Wednesday, 22 March 2023. Registration forms are available at Mitchell State School, Mungallala State School and Mungallala Primary’s administration offices.
