Council Celebrates the Change Makers
Volunteers across the region are invited to take part in Maranoa Regional Council’s Volunteer Week celebrations from 15 – 21 May 2023.
Officially Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, National Volunteer Week (NVW) recognises the vital support that volunteers provide to their communities - regionally and nationally.
With ‘The Change Makers’ locked in for the 2023 NVW theme, this year will be an opportunity to recognise volunteers as the change makers of Maranoa and a celebration of the region’s power to drive change.
Mayor Tyson Golder said Maranoa volunteers, without doubt, go above and beyond in providing endless opportunities to residents.
“Often our volunteers are the ones who work behind the scenes to keep new residents involved in the community - particularly with local activities - such as, sporting teams, social groups, service clubs and much more,” said Cr Golder.
“At least 20 per cent of the Maranoa region do some form of voluntary work. This is significantly higher than the rest of regional Queensland and above average in the whole of Queensland.”
Volunteers are encouraged to join the organised events happening during NVW and other events happening over the next couple of weeks. All activities are at no cost to the wonderful volunteers who contribute so greatly to Maranoa communities.
Council will also host several Grant Writing Workshops with Wombat Creative facilitator, Samantha Morris. Morris is a professional grants writer who teaches other people how to be led through a logical and light-hearted process of grant writing through interactive workshops.
Morris will be facilitating face-to-face workshops at Mitchell and Roma, and virtual workshops for Bendemere, Bungil and Warroo communities.
