Maranoa Local Disaster Group Monitoring the Current Weather Situation
Council would like to advise residents that the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is aware and closely monitoring the low-pressure system following Tropical Cyclone Kirrily.
Disaster Management staff are, and will continue to liaise, closely with the Bureau of Meteorology and Emergency Services over the next 12 - 24 hours regarding rainfall forecasts.
The Bureau of Meteorology is currently forecasting rainfall from the system over the weekend and into next week. Earlier in the week, several models had significant rainfall forecast across the region, however these estimates have been downgraded as the forecast path of the system continues to be refined.
Council is asking the community to be alert and continue to listen to forecasts and weather updates over the coming days.
In addition to the above, the Maranoa Region is forecast to experience continued heatwave conditions into the Australia Day long weekend. Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for signs of heat stress, particularly given the events that are planned across the region on Friday. Further information on heatwave safety is included below.
