Over the past few months, Council has been working on a number of improvements on and around the Adungadoo footpath.

These include new lighting from Apex Park to Shady’s Lagoon, an upgraded carpark at Apex Park and a new boardwalk and viewing platform at Roma’s Largest Bottle Tree.

The Apex Park carpark upgrade has created new sealed parking spaces, a cul-de-sac and additional kerb and channel to help improve drainage.

Mayor Tyson Golder said that these works have made the carpark much safer for both vehicles and pedestrians.

“With the weather starting to warm up, it is a great opportunity for walkers to use the new carpark and park as a base to use the Adungadoo Footpath to walk to Shady’s,” Cr Golder said.

“Users will be able to exercise day and night with the installation of new LED walkway lighting along this section of the Adungadoo footpath.”

The new boardwalk and viewing platform at Roma’s Largest Bottle Tree now gives visitors an up close and personal experience.

The Bottle Tree attracts many visitors all year round, and the impact of thousands of feet compacting the soil and damaging the shallow roots was starting to become detrimental to the ongoing health of the tree.

Council undertook this work to ensure the shallow surface roots around the tree’s base remain protected, while allowing visitors to view the impressive tree directly underneath its canopy.

The Apex Park Carpark Project has been fully funded through a $200,000 grant under the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The Adungadoo Walkway Lighting Project has been funded through the Queensland Government’s 2020-21 COVID Works for Queensland Program.
