Get Ready Maranoa
This week is Get Ready Queensland Week and it’s time for us to Get Ready for the upcoming severe weather season.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted wetter than average conditions this year due to the formation of a La Niña in the tropical Pacific. Now's the time to prepare – here are three essential steps to help you prepare.
Step one: Know your risk
Contact Council, talk to your neighbours or speak to people in the community about natural disasters that may impact your home or area.
Step two: Make an emergency plan
Sit down with your family and make a list of important contacts, including family and friends who live out of town, doctors, insurance providers, utility providers, emergency meeting places and details on where you would stay if you needed to evacuate quickly. You can download an emergency plan at www.getready.qld.gov.au
Step three: Pack an emergency kit
Keep a waterproof kit full of emergency supplies you would need to last at least three days at home if you were isolated due to flooding. Include plenty of non-perishable food and water, a torch, battery powered radio, toiletries, spare batteries, gas cooker and medication.
