The Department of Resources has advised Council that the Maranoa Region is not included in the 2025 Land Valuation Program. This means current land valuations will remain in effect for the 2025/2026 financial year. Property valuations is one of the two key variables that determines how rates are calculated. Stability in valuations for next year will provide some certainty to residents and less variables for Council to manage when setting rates for next year.
Monthly Financial Report for July and August
Council received and noted the Monthly Financial Report for the months of July and August. The purpose of these reports is for the Chief Executive Officer to present monthly financial statement to Council in accordance with the Local Government Regulation 2012.
Mungallala Hall Electrical Upgrades
Council considered a request to complete electrical upgrades at the Mungallala Hall and was pleased to move the proposal be reviewed within the First Quarter Budget Review to potentially allow the upgrades to proceed in time for Mungallala’s 100-year celebrations. Upgrades to the Mungallala Hall will include lighting inside and outside the facility as well as air conditioning in the supper room.
Roma Visitor Information Centre Christmas and New Year Operating Hours
Council has approved a reduction to the Roma Visitor Information Centre operating times during the Christmas and New Years Closure period. For a full list of period closures and reduced operation hours including for the Big Rig Light Show refer to the website.
ActiveKIT Super Round & Bike Riding Encouragement Program Community Grants
Council received a report providing an update on two funding applications submitted under the ActiveKIT Super Round and the Bike Riding Encouragement Program Community Grant. Council has noted the applications and authorised the CEO or delegate to sign any necessary documentation for both grant applications, if successful.
Development Application Material Change of Use “Short-term Accommodation”
Approval was given to change the material use agreement to allow future development for more “short-term accommodation” in Roma. Council acknowledges the importance of economic development in the region and the opportunity to provide more accommodation options for locals and visitors alike.
