Council and the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) are actively monitoring the rainfall and river gauges throughout the day.

Overnight the Maranoa region experienced further rainfall, particularly around Injune and areas north of Roma and Wallumbilla. Council and the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) are actively monitoring the rainfall and river gauges throughout the day.

While the heaviest rainfall appears to be behind us, residents should expect showers to persist over much of the region today, easing by Thursday and Friday.

Several roads across the Maranoa have been closed due to water over the road, and further closures may occur as water moves through the system. The main closures currently include Roma – Taroom Road, Wallumbilla South Road, Jackson – Wandoan Road and Roma Southern Road.  Council is committed to keeping the community informed with up-to-date road conditions, which can be accessed through the Disaster Dashboard on Council's website.

Mayor Wendy Taylor, Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group said despite the rain being welcome, caution is always required.

“For a region that heavily relies on the land, it is truly heartening to see this much-needed rainfall,” Mayor Taylor said.

“Our farmers and graziers have been waiting for relief like this, and while the rain can bring challenges to our road network, it’s also a blessing for the livelihoods it supports.”

Mayor Taylor urged caution for residents and visitors during this period of wet weather.

“I encourage everyone to stay safe and take extra care on the roads. If you’re travelling, please remain vigilant and avoid driving through floodwaters. Let’s all do our part to ensure everyone gets home safely.”

The Mayor also extended her appreciation to Ergon Energy crews working tirelessly to restore power to affected areas.

“I want to acknowledge the efforts of Ergon and their crews as they work around the clock to restore power to our residents. Their dedication, particularly in challenging weather conditions, is greatly appreciated by our community.”

Council reminds everyone to stay informed and to check the Disaster Dashboard regularly for the latest updates on road conditions and other relevant information.
