Roma’s new carpark now open
Maranoa Regional Council is pleased to announce the new Roma carpark, formerly home to the Empire Hotel, is now open.
Located at the corner of McDowall and Quintin Streets, the new facility provides 24 standard parking bays, one accessible bay and four long bays to service vehicles with trailers.
The carpark features one-way entry from McDowall Street and exit onto Quintin Street.
Lighting will be fully operational from February 2025 once the power connection by Ergon Energy is completed.
The carpark has been designed to meet current and future needs with provisions for shaded parking and electric vehicle charging.
Council is also looking at opportunities to honour the site’s historical significance through a public art installation.
Construction commenced in mid-2024 and was completed in December by local contractors DMAC Roma, Stapleton Carpentry and Concreting, with landscaping by Josh Hornick and electrical work completed by Clem Energy.
Maranoa Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Spokesperson for Major Projects Cameron O’Neil praised the project as a much-needed improvement for Roma’s CBD.
“This carpark is a practical and valuable enhancement, improving access and convenience for the community,” Cr O’Neil said.
“This project responds to a request from the community and will significantly benefit businesses in the Roma CBD.
“By increasing parking availability, it also supports local businesses by facilitating easier access for residents and visitors to shops and services in the area.”
Cr O'Neil thanked the work of local contractors in the delivery of this project.
“This carpark is a great example of how Council can partner with local businesses like DMAC Roma, Stapleton Carpentry and Concreting, and Josh Hornick to deliver projects that benefit our region,” he said.
Councillor and Portfolio Spokesperson for Town Streets and Footpaths Jane Vincent highlighted the project’s forward-thinking design.
“This project addresses today’s needs, while allowing for future enhancements, reflecting Council’s commitment to quality infrastructure,” Cr Vincent said.
“Maranoa Regional Council thanks everyone involved in the project, and we look forward to seeing the community benefit from this new facility.”
