Parliamentary Inquiry into Volunteering in Queensland

Council approved the preparation of a regional submission to the Queensland Parliamentary Inquiry into Volunteering, aiming to address challenges faced by local volunteer organisations and individuals in the Maranoa. The submission will be finalised and lodged at the end of February 2025 after consultation with volunteers in the region. More more information click here.

Establishment of Strategic Steering Committee I Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre Project

As the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre development continues to progress, Council has established a Strategic Steering Committee (SSC), to ensure effective governance, financial accountability, and strategic guidance. Councillors Cameron O’Neil, Portfolio Spokesperson for Major Projects, Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy and Peter Fylnn Portfolio Spokesperson for Sport and Recreation were appointed to the committee to oversee the projects progress and alignment with Council objectives.

Local Government Remuneration Commission Schedule – Commencing 1 July 2025

Council received and noted the findings of the Local Government Remuneration Commission's review and will implement the independent recommended remuneration changes for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors as outlined in the Commission's report from December 4, 2024. Consideration of Elected Member Attendance – 2025 LGAQ Civic Leaders Summit

Council received and noted the report on the consideration of elected member attendance at the 2025 LGAQ Civic Leaders Summit.

Audit Committee Meeting Minutes I 21 January 2025

The Audit Committee Meeting Minutes held at the Roma Saleyards on 21 January 2025 were received as well as approve the undertaking of a risk gap analysis as per the committee’s recommendation.

Wall of Fame Inductee for Consideration

Council approved the nomination to induct Roma’s Amy Lorenz to the Wall of Fame for her contributions to rugby, representing Australia under a recognised National Sporting Organisation. This initiative continues to add to the Wall of Fame at the PCYC Maranoa, which celebrates local athletes' achievements. Ongoing nominations welcome.

Biosecurity Advisory Committee Terms of Reference

Approval was given for the establishment of an interim Committee to develop the Terms of Reference (TOR) and Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for the Biosecurity Advisory Committee. Council has endorsed the CEO to begin the EOI process, to obtain representation from across the Maranoa region, including industry representatives, landholders and community members.

Wallumbilla Showgrounds – User Group Agreement Renewal

Council resolved to enter into user agreements with the Wallumbilla Showgrounds User Groups – including the Wallumbilla Show Society, Bendemere Pony Club, Wallumbilla Campdraft Association Incorporated, Wallumbilla Community Menshed Incorporated, and the Wallumbilla Cricket Club – for a five-year period, granting them continued use of the Wallumbilla Showgrounds.

Don Ross Historical Collection

Council resolved to seek feedback from the Cobb & Co Store Museum Committee, Yuleba Development Group, and other key stakeholder regarding interest in the Don Ross historical collection. A further report will be presented at the ordinary meeting.
