Among the topics discussed at its meeting on 13 March were:
Wallumbilla Multi-Purpose Centre Lettable Space
Council resolved to undertake an Expression of Interest process to assess potential commercial or community tenants for the lettable space in the Wallumbilla Multi-Purpose Building, originally planned as a commercial kitchen and café. With the project nearing completion and expected to open in June 2025, consideration for the future use of the space through the EOI process will enable the community to have input into how the space can best be used and determine Council’s ongoing development.
Council nominated Tourism Portfolio Chair, Cr Jane Vincent to join the new Tourism Subcommittee established by Roma Commerce and Tourism (RCAT). The committee will offer recommendations to guide tourism policies and initiatives, ensuring they meet regional needs and industry expectations.
Council has endorsed the attendance of Mayor Tayor, Deputy Mayor O’Neil and Cr Hancock to attend both the 2025 Australia Local Government (ALGA) National General Assembly from the 24-27 June 2025, as well as the 2025 Regional Cooperation and Development Forum on 24 June 2025 in Canberra. Council representation at both conferences will provide important opportunities for advocacy and discussion of key issues across local government.
Rollover of funds from FY24/25 to FY25/26: Injune Museum Project
As part of the FY24/25 budget, Council allocated $150,000 to the Cultural Heritage Injune Preservation Society to assist in securing grant funding for the Injune Museum fit out. Council approved including the allocated funding in the draft Capital Works Budget for consideration of the 2025/26 Budget deliberations. A follow-up report outlining the new staged approach and associated costings will be presented to council.
Annual Membership of Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE)
Council agreed to continue its membership of Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE), with the amendment that under Broader Economic Development initiatives, TSBE will work with Maranoa Regional Council, Roma Commerce and Tourism and other regional stakeholders to further progress industry collaboration within the region.
Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive – Roma Event
Council endorsed hosting a ticketed sit-down ‘Beef Banquet’ event at the Roma Saleyards on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, to mark the conclusion of the Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive (GACCD). More information will be released at a closer date.
