Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) 2025 National General Assembly | Motion Submission
Council approved the submission of two motions for consideration at the 2025 National General Assembly (NGA) of Local Government, set to take place in Canberra from June 24-27, 2025. The motions endorsed for submission include Disaster Management Funding (Colvin Review) – No Cost Shifting on Local Government and addressing Variable Funding Percentage Eligibility within Local Government Area.
Request to Consider Recognition and Signage | Keiseker’s Flat
Council has received and noted a request for formal recognition of Kieseker’s Flat, acknowledging its historical significance and association with the Kieseker family. Council has approved in principle the installation of historical signage at Kiekeser’s Flat, gathering additional historical insights and seeking input from the from the Roma & District Family History Society on the design and location of the installation.
Monthly Financial Report as at 28 February 2025
Council received the financial report for the month of February in accordance with the Local Government Regulation 2012. Council staff have introduced an Executive Summary that highlights key variances between the Year-To-Date (YTD) budget and actual figures, along with the forecast through the end of the financial year, showing that the budget remains on track.
Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund 2024/25 Round 2 | Consideration of Project Nominations
Council resolved to apply for funding under the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund 2024/45 Round 2 for two projects in the Maranoa. If successful, council has committed to co-contributing $7,500 and $3,750 for the following projects: Construction of Verandah on Injune Cricket Clubhouse and Renewal of Practice Surface at Surat Community Cricket Nets.
Roma History Lodge – Building and Maintenance
Following a previous resolution on 13 September 2023 to provide up to $15,000 for the Roma & District Family History Society to complete building and maintenance works, Council has agreed to work with the group to apply for funding grants for further building upgrades. Council will also consider an additional funding request in the 2025/26 budget for further works to Roma History Lodge.
Applications through Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Program 2024/2025
Council approved recommendations from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Committee for two grants. The committee recommended $2,640 for Creative Injune Incs ‘Watercolur Unlocked: Fundamental’ workshop and $1,664 for the Roma & District Lapidary & Mineral Society Incs ‘Welcome to Mosaic’ workshop. Maranoa Childcare Bursary Program 2024
In February 2024 Council resolved to promote the 2024 Maranoa Childcare Bursary Program. The program aims to support and encourage childcare workers to complete their studies and work in the Maranoa, strengthening the local childcare workforce. Bursaries totalling $24,000 were awarded to 15 eligible childcare workers. At the meeting it was also agreed that a revised framework for the program will be considered as part of the 2025/26 budget deliberations.
Concept design for the Injune Museum external wall
Council approved the concept design for the Injune Museum external wall and approved the Cultural Heritage Injune Preservation Society (CHIPS) to proceed with the manufacture and installation of the wall art.
Queensland Government Country Roads Connect Program – Project Nomination
Council has endorsed the nomination of a project on Yuleba Surat Road under the Queensland Government’s Country Roads Connect Program, which supports improved road access for Queensland communities. If successful, the funding will contribute to further bitumen sealing works along the section of road between the Condamine and Carnarvon Highways.
Addressing the Spread of Love Grass in the Maranoa region
Council has agreed to hold a briefing on Love Grass better understand its characteristics and potential impact on the environment and economy, of the Maranoa Region. An up-to-date and comprehensive fact sheet will also be made available to affected community members and interested parties, including staff.
Location of Injune’s Wedge Tail Eagle Sculpture
Council considered community feedback from two rounds of consultation along with project costings council and endorsed placing the Wedge Tail Eagle Sculpture outside the Injune Museum as the preferred site for installation of the. The costs of installation of the sculpture will be considered as part of the FY25/26 budget.
