Among the topics discussed at its meeting on 10 April were:
Mayor Wendy Taylor brought a Councillor’s motion to investigate a community book exchange program for the Maranoa. A report will be prepared outlining the potential for a community book exchange program for the Maranoa and presented to Council as part of the 2025/26 budget deliberations.
Surat Cobb and Co Coach Repairs
The Cobb & Co Store Museum Workgroup identified repairs and repainting is needed for the Cobb & Co Coach. Council approved $17,850 to carry out the necessary repairs.
Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre Redevelopment and Mitigation Strategies
Council reviewed a report on the upcoming 18-month closure of the Denise Spencer Memorial Pool for redevelopment. The option of a temporary 25-metre pool was considered, it was not progressed due to high costs. Instead, Council has approved in principle a range of mitigation strategies to support the community during the closure. These include water safety education, community transport to neighbouring town pools, fitness alternatives, social events, and reviewing options to heat a regional pool to support aquatic activities. Final plans will be considered as part of the 2025/26 budget deliberations.
Warroo Sporting Complex Canteen Project (Internal Fit-Out)
Council received an updated report on completed works to the Warroo Sporting Complex Canteen Project. Council agreed to allocate $55,000 from the budget for the installation of a modular-style kitchen under a new project titled Warroo Sporting Complex Canteen Fit Out.
Wallumbilla Multipurpose Building | Facility Name
Council gave in principle approval Council gave in principle approval to naming the new Wallumbilla Multipurpose Facility the ‘Wallumbilla Community Hub’. A subsequent report will be brought back after correspondence and discussion with the relevant local groups on the new name.
Wallumbilla Multipurpose Building | Operational Considerations
Council approved in principle support for the delivery of enhanced Council services from the Wallumbilla Multipurpose Building, including integrated Library, Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and Customer Service Functions. Council will now finalise discussions with the Calico Cottage Committee regarding operations of the Calico Cottage space within the new building.
Notice of Termination – Studio 2 Roma Community Arts Centre
Council has received notice from the Silversmiths Roma Group Inc. expressing their intention to terminate the Commercial Tenancy Agreement for Studio 2 at the Roma Community Arts Centre. In response, Council is inviting Expressions of Interest for a not-for-profit community group to utilize Studio 2.
