Maranoa weather situation update
With rainfall across the region now easing, levels in the Bungil Creek at Roma are now receding.
The Bungil Creek peaked below a minor flood level event at 4.75m (automatic gauge) around 5pm yesterday. As of 12.30pm, the creek has dropped to approximately 4.0m. Levels are expected to continue to fall slowly through the day.
Waters are also receding from the Eastern Diversion Channel in Roma which saw a significant amount of flow during this event. It has been estimated that without the channel, the flood height at the Bungil Creek in Roma is likely to have exceeded the moderate flood level of 5.45m (automatic gauge).
Crews have been deployed and will focus on reopening of roads and debris removal as areas become accessible.
Removal of debris from Ashburn Road at the Eastern Diversion Channel crossing has been completed, with the road likely to be reopened later this afternoon.
The Local Disaster Management Group will remain on Alert and continue to monitor the lower Bungil Creek and Balonne catchments over the coming days.
River level rises are occurring in the Balonne River at Surat, with the prediction to reach the minor flood level of 5.0m around Friday evening.
Council would like to remind the community to remain cautious over the coming days as flood water begins to reduce. Drivers are advised to check for road closures and weather warnings, before setting off. Remember – If it’s flooded, forget it. Visit Council’s Emergency Management Information Dashboard Dashboard (maranoa.qld.gov.au) for the latest updates.
Council would like to thank residents for their continued vigilance and patience during this rain event.
