Temporary closure possible on Ashburn Road at Eastern Diversion Channel
Due to overnight rain in the upper Bungil catchment, Council wishes to advise residents that Ashburn Road at the Eastern Diversion Channel may close later today / early evening.
Water is currently working through the Mooga and Upper Bungil catchments. Initial water level rises are now being recorded at the Knayers Lane gauge just north of Roma.
Access to the Roma waste facility access may be impacted due to the closure. Further information on the closure, and possible duration, will be provided once the upstream levels have peaked.
The Local Disaster Management Group is also monitoring the Balonne River at Warkon and Surat. Based on the latest update from the Bureau, the main flood peak along the river is approaching Warkon. The Balonne River at Warkon is currently at 9.45 metres and rising slowly. At this stage, the Bureau is reporting that the Balonne River at Surat may peak near 8.80 metres during Saturday.
With the widespread rainfall across the Maranoa, Council would like to encourage residents to remain vigilant and take caution when travelling on the roads. A number of roads across the region may have water over road or have been closed. A full list of current road closures can be found on Maranoa Regional Council’s Disaster Dashboard.
