Regional Flooding and Ashburn Road Closure Update
Temporary closure of Ashburn Road to remain in place for at least the next 24 hours
Maranoa Regional Council wishes to advise residents that Ashburn Road, at the Eastern Diversion Channel, is likely to remain closed for the rest of today and possible a majority of tomorrow (Friday). The Roma Waste and Resource Recovery Facility remains open, with access currently available via Clayton Road and Miscamble Street East.
Bungil Creek levels in Roma are receding, with a peak around 7:00am this morning, however renewed rises are expected later today as the water from the upper catchment makes its way down the system. Council will continue to monitor the levels over the course of the day and into the evening. The Balonne River in Surat continues to rise slowly, with the Bureau of Meteorology estimating a peak near 8.80 metres during Saturday.
A number of roads across remain closed – with impacts likely to progressively work north to south over the coming week. A full list of current road closures can be found on Maranoa Regional Council’s Disaster Dashboard. Remember – If it’s flooded, forget it.
