Surfacing Upgrades to Start on Arthur Street
Commencing Monday 18 March 2024, Council will be undertaking asphalt overlay works on Arthur Street, between McDowall and Bungil Streets.
To help reduce the impact on residents and businesses in the area, the works have been programmed to be undertaken at night from 6.30pm – 5.30am.
The works are expected to take between 3 – 4 days to complete, with the final night of work planned for Thursday 21 March 2024. The work will generally be completed in two stages, with one side of the street being completed before the other is completed.
- The first stage will involve shape correcting the road by cutting and filling sections, including a strip beside the kerb. During this first stage that the works may look a little like a ‘patchwork quilt’.
- The second, and final stage, involves placing a uniform layer of asphalt across the road.
Traffic controllers, advance warning signs and detours will be in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians safely around the work site.
Temporary raised pavement markers will be installed at the completion of the works to indicate centre-line marking. Permanent line marking (including car parks) and wheel-stop replacement is planned for approximately 2-3 weeks after the new asphalt surface is laid. This delay helps prevent discolouring (i.e. bitumen staining) of the new line marking.
Council would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation while these important street upgrade works are completed.
