Surat Town - Changes to Waste Facility

Back
Changes to the Surat Waste Facility.

Residents will soon be seeing changes taking place at the Surat Waste Facility, and we wanted to explain what these changes are, and the reasons for them.

To comply with State Government requirements, waste deposited at Surat Waste Facility will be transferred to Roma for processing and recording and we will cease use of the local landfill. This means some reorganising of the site is necessary including the installation of large bins.

Residents taking waste to the facility are asked to place their waste into these bins, where possible.

Please note there are also locations now available at the facility to accept all green waste as well as scrap metal.

Temporary and permanent signage will also be in place at the facility to assist and guide residents to these locations.

If you are unable to access the bins, there will be a clearly signed, designated area nearby where you can deposit your rubbish. Waste placed in this area will be periodically transferred to the bins by Council staff and contractors.

There is no change to your regular domestic waste pickup service (wheelie bins) in town.

These changes only apply to waste taken directly to the waste facility, for example by utility or trailer.

It is important to reassure you that:

• The waste facility will not be closing.

• These measures are temporary while a permanent process for waste transfer is developed.

These changes were discussed at a community stakeholder feedback session in Surat on Tuesday 28 May, 2024.

Council thanks the community for their cooperation and assistance during this time. Should you have any queries in respect to this matter locally please contact Council Customer Service.
