Planned Prescribed Burn in Surat.

Maranoa Regional Council wishes to advise residents in the town of Surat that a planned burn scheduled for Wednesday, 19 June has been POSTPONED.

Please note, Council will advise when a revised date will be advertised.

The fire mitigation measure will allow for a vegetation pile located east of the town near the Surat cemetery and airport to be burnt off in preparation for the upcoming fire season.

The burn will occur between 5pm and 10pm with weather and wind conditions permitting. The burn will be conducted under the supervision of QFES and the Rural Fire Service.

It is recommended that windows and doors are kept closed during this time and residents who suffer from a respiratory condition are advised to keep their medication close-by.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads with motorists urged to drive with caution and to conditions.

Maranoa Regional Council will continue to monitor the site post burn with residual smoke expected in the days after.
