Maranoa Regional Council continues to monitor Tropical Cyclone Alfred. The latest forecasts indicate that the cyclone remains off the coast, tracking towards southeast Queensland later in the week.
While there is no immediate threat to the Maranoa region, residents may experience increasing winds and rainfall over the coming days as the system moves inland.
Weather Outlook for Maranoa
Hot conditions are expected to continue through Saturday, with only a slight chance of showers. Winds are expected to strengthen over the coming days as the system moves inland, peaking on Friday before easing slightly. From Sunday onwards, the likelihood of rain increases, with possible thunderstorms on Monday bringing increased rainfall. Winds are expected to remain moderate early next week, with showers continuing into Tuesday.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Stay Informed: Regularly check official updates from the Bureau of Meteorology (www.bom.gov.au) and Council’s Emergency Dashboard for local updates and preparedness information.
- Prepare for Increased Winds: Secure any loose outdoor items, such as garden furniture, bins, and outdoor equipment, to prevent damage.
- Prepare for Rainfall: Ensure that gutters, drains, and properties are clear of debris to accommodate potential increased rainfall.
- Travel Plans: If you have travel plans, especially towards southeast Queensland, monitor updates from airlines and transport services, as schedules may be affected (Rex: Flight Status and Disruptions) (Greyhound: Service Updates | Greyhound Australia).
Residents should note that while flights from Brisbane have been affected, the Roma Airport remains open.
Council will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves, with the next routine update planned for 3:00 PM tomorrow.
