Issued: Thursday, 6 March 2025, 3:00 PM

Tropical Cyclone Alfred remains under close watch by Maranoa Regional Council as it tracks slowly towards the southeast Queensland coast. The system has stalled in its movement overnight and is now moving at a slower pace. While the cyclone is not expected to have a direct impact on the Maranoa region, residents should expect for increased winds and a higher chance of rain over the coming days.

Weather Outlook for Maranoa

  • Winds: Winds are expected to increase today and into Friday before easing slightly over the weekend. Moderate winds are forecast to continue into early next week.
  • Rainfall: Showers are likely from Sunday, with localised showers early next week. Daily rainfall totals are currently expected to remain around 1–5mm.

While these conditions will bring some noticeable changes over the coming days, wind forecasts remain within what our region has experienced before. However, this is a good opportunity to reinforce safety around trees and powerlines.

Travel and Powerline Safety

  • Be aware of trees and powerlines. Stay mindful of falling branches, particularly near roads and buildings. Avoid parking under large trees where possible.
  • Check travel arrangements. If travelling towards southeast Queensland, monitor updates from airlines and transport services, as schedules may be affected

  • Power safety: If you see a fallen powerline, report it immediately to Ergon Energy at 13 16 70 and stay clear.

Council will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves. The next routine update is planned for 3:00 PM tomorrow.
