Severe Weather Warning - HEAVY RAINFALL

The Maranoa Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is closely monitoring the developing weather system impacting western and inland Queensland.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of the state, including potential rainfall and flooding impacts for the Maranoa region later this week.

Mayor Wendy Taylor, Chair of the Maranoa LDMG said Council and emergency services are working together to monitor this weather system.

"While the forecast rain is welcome in some areas, it’s important our community remains aware of the risks, particularly flash flooding, " she said.

"Please stay up to date with the latest information and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.”

Key Forecast Highlights for the Maranoa:

Tuesday to Friday (25–27 March): Very high chance of rain each day (95%), with possible heavy falls.

Forecast rainfall:

  • Wednesday: 8–40 mm
  • Thursday: 15–70 mm
  • Friday: 9–60 mm

Based on current forecasts, the heaviest rainfall is expected on Thursday and into Friday. These conditions may lead to localised flash flooding, hazardous road conditions, and temporary access issues, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

The Diversion Channel in Roma may flow, potentially impacting access to the Roma Waste Facility into the weekend.

Looking ahead to the weekend (29–31 March):

A shower or two is forecast each day, with a gradual easing of conditions. Rainfall totals are expected to reduce significantly from Saturday onwards.
