Severe Weather Warning - HEAVY RAINFALL

Thursday 27 March 2025 – 3:00 PM. Council continues to keep a close and steady watch on the weather system in western Queensland.
Periods of rain will persist throughout the region today, with more intense falls expected later this afternoon and overnight.
The system is forecast to gradually move eastward during Friday and Saturday, bringing improving conditions across the weekend.
Rainfall is likely to ease from Saturday and into the weekend.
The Maranoa Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to ALERT status as the system moves east and also to ensure isolated residents south of Mungallala and Mitchell are supported should further assistance be required.
Rainfall and Local Conditions – Maranoa Region
- South of Mungallala: Some areas have recorded combined totals exceeding 240 mm, isolating a number of properties by road.
- North and South of Mitchell: Rainfall totals of 100–150 mm have been recorded.
- Elsewhere across the region: On average, areas have received 60–80 mm since the event began (less in the East).
Road Conditions and Closures
Roads across the region continue to be impacted, with further closures expected over the next 24–48 hours as the system moves east.
Major closures currently include:
- Mitchell–Bollon Road
- Middle Road
Council is closely monitoring the Warrego Highway (between Mitchell and Mungallala), with water currently lapping at several locations.

Maranoa Region – Forecast Summary from Bureau
- Today & Tonight: Ongoing rain, heavy at times. 25–70 mm possible.
- Friday: Very high chance of rain and thunderstorms. 10–50 mm, locally higher.
- Saturday: Showers easing. 1–20 mm possible.
- Sunday–Monday: Mostly dry. 0–2 mm Sunday, 0–1 mm Monday.
